6 Women Leading Bostons Restaurant Scene

Posted on July 25 2019

Who: Lauren Friel is the owner and “wine nerd extraordinaire”

What: A no rules natural wine bar where Lauren wants the community to engage, grow, and communicate with each other.

Where: Bow Market in Somerville

Why: The wine list is constantly changing with winemakers constantly visiting to provide even more options. Every Sunday there will be a Wine 101 class if you’re interested in wine nerding it out. While there isn’t a full menu, you can snack on some salty olives, crunchy olive-oil fried potato chips from Spain, or delicious cheese from our own South End store Formaggio.

Who: Karen Akunowicz’s is the head chef and owner

What: A Traditional Italian food and drink restaurant with a modern twist focusing on handmade pastas

Where: 28 West Broadway Boston, MA

Why: It’s a casual and contemporary communal gathering place for guests to celebrate anything and everything. Karen wants to bring Italy alive on our little corner of the earth, with exceptional ingredients, traditional soul-satisfying dishes, and modern twists to beloved classics.

Who: Tiffani Faison is a Top Chef finalist and owns Fools Errand. She is also the chef and owner of Sweet Cheeks and chef/ co-owner of Tiger Mama

What: An adult snack bar free of seats

Where: Fenway -1377 Boylston Street Boston, MA

Why: A snack bar with no seats! The reason for no seating is because Tiffani wanted it to be a unique quick bite place. If you’re on the way to a Red Sox game, but want something more upscale than fast food chains, this is the place to be. You’ll be able to choose from a small menu that features Fancy Finger Sandwiches and Croquettes.

Who: Haley Fortier is the owner and operator. She was recently named Food and Wine Magazine’s “2019 Sommeliers of the Year”

What: A wine bar focused on small production, natural and female produced wines

Where: 186 Brookline Avenue Boston, MA

Why: The wine list is ever-changing with wine’s from around the globe. If you don’t want to commit to a full bottle of wine, you can choose to order a half bottle. While the menu is smaller than some, it does have options for everyone from dishes of a cheese plate to a Fenway Brat.

Who: Rebecca Roth Gullo is the owner who also owns the Gallows

What: A modern asian restaurant

Where: South End - 553 Tremont Street Boston MA

Why: This is an inventive eatery of modern Asian fusion cuisine that provides you with dim-sum dishes to noodles and rice dishes. Enjoy the outdoor patio in the warmer weather months for dinner or brunch (served Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm)

SRV - Serene Republic of Venice

Who: Meghan Thompson is the new pastry chef of SRV

What: A Venetian-style Bacaro and wine bar

Where: 569 Columbus Ave - in Bostons South End

Why: SRV specializes in cicchetti (small bites), pasta made from house-milled flour, and made to order risotto. On top of the delicious dinner menu, the dessert menu is nothing but decadent, where Meghan will continue to elevate the recipes.
